For most of my life, I thought Bible study had to look a certain way.
Early morning.
Hot cup of tea.
Open Bible.
Perfect silence.
A heart ready to hear from God - before the kids woke up, before the day got messy, before anything else happened.
And if it didn’t look like that?
Well… I figured I may as well skip it, because anything less wasn’t “real” spiritual discipline.
It took me years - decades, honestly - to realise something beautifully simple:
Morning.
Lunchtime.
3:30 pm while the kids watch Play School.
Before bed when the house slows down.
In the car during soccer practice.
On the couch with a journal and ten quiet minutes.
He meets me wherever I am.
And that truth changed everything.
For so long, I tried to study the Bible the way I thought a “good Christian girl” should - no structure, no prompts, no tools, just reading and hoping something would land.
But my mind wandered.
My thoughts scattered.
My heart wanted Jesus, but I struggled to engage with the text in a meaningful way.
Then I discovered something that felt almost like cheating:
Guided questions help.
Journaling helps.
Not because they replace the Spirit - but because they quiet the noise long enough for me to hear Him.
Once I embraced that, Bible study stopped feeling like a burden or a rulebook.
It became a place of rest.
And I want the same for you.
Two of the women in my community said it best:
“Everything was very fundamental and educational that I never knew growing up. I’m enjoying learning about God and his son Jesus and finding my purpose.” - Junai
“I learn a lot of wonderful things in this Bible study.” - Teresa
These aren’t women who grew up with fancy theological tools.
They’re women who simply wanted to know God - and found a way to do it that felt doable, personal, and spiritually rich.
Let me give you the simple, grace-filled framework I wish I’d had when I was first starting out.
You’re not failing God if your Bible doesn’t open at 6:00 am.
Your life stage matters.
Your energy matters.
Your rhythms matter.
The right time is the one you can return to with joy.
Some women thrive with:
• Journaling
• Reflective prompts
• Guided study books
• Question-based frameworks like KYB
If your brain feels scattered or your days feel full, structured study isn’t “less spiritual.”
It’s often the very thing that frees you to be present with the Word.
A chapter can be overwhelming.
A whole book? Even more so.
Start with:
• A short passage
• A psalm
• A short gospel story
• A letter you can break into daily sections
Small steps build steady confidence.
A simple prayer is enough:
“Lord, help me hear You today.”
That’s it. God honours that.
Something shifts when you write.
Your thoughts settle.
Your heart slows down.
Your attention sharpens.
You don’t need perfect sentences.
Just honest ones.
Not 10 principles.
Just one thing you can live out.
What is God inviting you to trust, release, believe, or do?
That’s the seed that grows.
These are the resources that shape my own study life:
I create these through Journal Life 365, my monthly membership for women who want simple, meaningful Bible study with guided questions.
I use these in my fortnightly in-person ladies’ Bible study.
They provide clarity, context, and meaningful questions.
Created for our home - and now available in my Milk & Honey Family membership. Perfect for mums studying Scripture with their children.
Each tool serves the same purpose:
to help women meet with God in a way that feels peaceful, not pressured.
If you want a simple way to begin, download my Bible study:
➡ Finding Your Purpose in God - A Bible Study
It will walk you through Scripture gently and clearly, with prompts to guide your reflections.
You can start it today - even if you only have 3 minutes.
If you’d like to strengthen your prayer life and deepen your conversations with God, you might love:
➡ Conversations With the Father - A Bible Study Journal to Dive Deep Into Prayer
It’s designed to help you slow down, listen, and respond to God with honesty and intimacy.
You don’t have to study the Bible the way you were told you “should.”
You don’t have to:
• Wake early
• Follow a rigid formula
• Match someone else’s spiritual rhythm
• Pretend you’re in a quiet season when your life is anything but
You are allowed to meet with God in the way that fits the life He gave you.
“I can do this in any way that feels right for me.
I can honour God with my time - at any time of day - and I don’t have to conform to someone else’s Bible study ‘rules.’”
That’s the heart of it.
And that’s the freedom I pray washes over you as you begin.
